Weekly mowings are still needed. Now is a good time to spray for
broadleaf (like dandelions.) Back off on the watering schedule because
of the cooler nights. Insects are still active, so keep an eye out for
the problems they may cause. This is a great time to plant trees and
shrubs for the coming year. Also—don’t forget to order fall bulbs and
get them in the ground for some spectacular color come spring.

If you haven’t already turned off your irrigation system, do so NOW to avoid frost damage. Remember, though, that in a dry year, there may still be some watering needs. As leaves fall, clean them up (they make wonderful mulch or cover for beds and vegetable gardens.) Also, wrap any shrubs that may be damaged by heavy snows. This is also a good time to spray with anti-desiccant to large-leaf shrubs such as laurel, box wood, and euonymus. This is a wax film which provides protection against the cold and wind and prevents winter burn and drying out.
